Hatfield leads Lady Vikings rout of New Boston

NEW BOSTON — Hats off to Hatfield.

Tiara Hatfield had a big game at the plate to lead the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings to a 14-1 rout of the New Boston Lady Tigers on Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Hatfield went 3-for-4 with a double and four runs batted in. Taylor Webb was 2-2 with a triple and Sierra Ross was 2-4 with two RBIs.

“Hatfield had a tremendous game. She played well and hit well,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “We hit well as a team.”

Stephanie Brown and Sarah Kingery combined on a five-inning no-hitter for the Lady Vikings (7-0, 4-0).

Symmes Valley took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

With two out, Kaitlyn Payne singled, Hatfield reached on an error, both moved up on a wild pitch and Ross singled them home.

Ross stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error.

The lead went to 7-0 in the top of the second.

Brown and Webb singled to start the inning. Webb stole second and Hatfield singled for a run. Ross hit a sacrifice fly, Kingery tripled for a run and then scored on a wild pitch.

Brown was hit by a pitch, Webb and Payne walked to load bases, and Brown scored on a wild pitch. Webb scored on Ross’ sacrifice fly and Hatfield singled in a run.

The final four runs scored in the fourth.

Brown was safe on an error, Webb and Payne walked and Hatfield doubled to clear the bases. Hatfield scored when Ross hit into a fielder’s choice.

On Monday, Symmes Valley scored 11 runs in the first inning and beat Western 16-4.

Western visits Symmes Valley on Wednesday.
