AID — Putting a couple of big numbers together usually equals a big win.

The Symmes Valley Vikings combined 10 hits and 11 walks to generate a 15-0 five-inning Southern Ohio Conference win over the Western Indians on Monday.

Payton Hayes went 2-3 with a double and Jase Patterson was 3-4 to lead the Vikings’ offense. Cameron Meadows and Isaac McFann each had a double and Laykin Gothard had a triple.

Patterson singled home a run in the first for a 1-0 lead.

McFann had double, Shawn Belville reached on an error and Patterson had a two-run single to ignite an 8-run second.

Chayden Renfroe double home a run and Hayes followed with an RBI single.

Renfroe went the first three innings to get the win. He struck out three, gave up three hits and did not walk a batter.

On Tuesday, the Vikings managed just three hits and were guilty of six errors that led to only two earned runs in a 9-4 loss to the Fairland Dragons.

“We had our opportunity to win, we just couldn’t come up with a key hit,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

Gothard, Hayes and Bowen all had hits for the Vikings who gave up four unearned runs in the seventh inning.

Fairland took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first but the Vikings made it 3-2 in the bottom of the inning when Gothard and Hayes singled and Patterson, Renfroe and Nick Klaiber all walked.

The Dragons got two runs in the second and it was 5-2. Symmes Valley then cut the deficit to 5-4 in the fourth.

Renfroe, Blake Bowen and Derek Brace all walked, Brock Carpenter was hit by a pitch for a run and a ground out scored Bowen.

Tyler George was 2-3 as Fairland had eight hits.

The Vikings host Western on Wednesday.
