In a week from today Ohio University Southern will celebrate the contributions women make to society when it hosts the sixth annual women’s conference.

The conference, always held at the OUS Proctorville Center, promotes itself by acting as a special resource for women, presenting a variety of diverse sessions to interest, inform and entertain.

The day will start with morning breakout sessions followed by a catered lunch with a keynote speaker. This year Ironton Mayor’s Katrina Keith will be the luncheon speaker. But other area celebrities such as WSAZ-TV’s Melanie Shafer have shared their life experiences.

This conference will teach women how to be financially proactive, obtain tips and tricks for healthy eating, learn personal safety techniques and hear from women who are leaders in business and those at the heart of social change.

Among those conducting the workshop will be Joan C. Browning speaking on her time as a Freedom Rider; OUS professor Miki Crawford on the benefits of tea; Jodi Rowe-Collins talking about finance; and Elaine Payne, director of the domestic abuse shelter, on determining the signs of abuse.

What a valuable event this is for women to get together to share their unique fellowship and learn together.
