FRANKLIN FURNACE — Leave it to the battery to give your team a charge.

Trevor Carver pitched and catcher Josh Karshner hit as the Green Bobcats posted a 9-2 Southern Ohio Conference win over the Eastern Eagles on Wednesday.

Karshner went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple and three runs batted in to back Carver who pitched a 3-hitter as Green improved to 5-5 and 4-0 in the SOC.

“Carver threw really well and Karshner hit well. They did their job driving the ball all around the ballpark as a hitter and throwing strikes and getting people out as a pitcher,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

“It was a workmanlike performance as a team.”

Green took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Tayte Carver singled, Karshner had an RBI triple and Trevor Carver had a run-scoring single.

The Bobcats added a run in the third on a single by Rylee Maynard, a stole base and Karshner’s double.

After Eastern got an unearned run in the top of the fourth, the Bobcats blew the game open with five runs in the bottom of the inning on just one hit.

Following a lightning delay, Hayden Whittis got a leadoff single. Hunter Lewis reached on an error, Maynard and Tayte Carver both walked to force in a run, Karshner reached on an error for a run, Tyler Darnell was hit by a pitch for an RBI, and a missed third strike allowed the final run to score.

The final run scored in the fifth. Tayte Carver and Karshner singled, moved up on a wild pitch and a missed third strike scored Carver.

Tayte Carver was 3-3 with two RBIs as Green had eight hits.

Green hosts Portsmouth Clay on Friday.
