CHESAPEAKE — There were just too many hits.

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers got good pitching, good defense and some clutch hitting, but it couldn’t overcome the hitting of the Gallipolis Blue Angels who posted an 8-4 Ohio Valley Conference win on Monday.

Gallipolis had 15 hits to help overcome nine strikeouts by Chesapeake’s Brooke Webb.

The Lady Panthers had six hits led by Ryleigh Swann who went 2-3 with a run batted in while Webb was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Hunter Copley — who was the winning pitcher — went 3-4 with a double, Paxton Roberts 2-4 with a triple, Allie Jo Clagg 3-4 and two RBIs, and MaKenzie Barr 2-4 with an RBI.

Gallipolis went up 1-0 in the top of the third on a triple by Roberts and a hit by Barr.

Chesapeake came back to take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the inning.

Robin Frye walked, Kelsey Huff singled, Laura Rice reached on an error for a run and Brooke Webb followed with a two-run single.

Gallipolis regained the lead with three runs in the fifth keyed by Jenna Meadows two-run double.

Chesapeake got a run in the bottom of the inning on a double by Webb and Swann’s RBI single.

But the Blue Angels scored an unearned run in the sixth and scored three insurance runs in the seventh on hits by Barr, Shelby Long, Carley Shriver and Clagg.

Chesapeake hosts Lawrence County, Ky., on Tuesday and visits Fairland on Wednesday.
