AID — Chayden Renfroe wasn’t a one-man defense. It just seemed that way.

Renfroe struck out 12 of the 15 outs as he pitched a five-inning no-hitter to give the Symmes Valley Vikings to a 10-0 Southern Ohio Conference win over the Sciotoville East Tartans.

The Vikings had six hits with Cameron Meadows going 2-for-4.

“We’re playing better. Takes some time because we don’t have much experience. Defense played well and Chayden threw strikes. We need to hit the ball better,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

The Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the first when Laykin Gothard singled, stole second and third and scored on an error. Meadows was safe on an error and scored on a fielder’s choice.

A run scored in the third as Meadows reached on an error, moved up on a passed ball and Renfroe had an RBI single.

Four runs scored in the fourth.

Derik Brace walked, Gothard was hit by a pitch, Payton Hayes walked and Meadows hit a two-run single. An error scored a run and a walk with the bases loaded for in a run.

The final three runs scored in the fifth.

Hayes singled, stole second and scored on Meadows’ single. Jase Patterson reached on an error as a run scored and Patterson scored on a wild pitch to end the game.

The teams meet again at Sciotoville on Wednesday.
