Dragons’ offense maintains its run production again

SOUTH POINT — The Fairland offense is alive and well.

The Dragons scored in double digits for the third time in the past five games and second in a row as they outscored the South Point Pointers 11-7 on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“It’s really exciting. I hope it carries over into the next few weeks,” said Fairland coach Alex Beelen.

Fairland (6-5, 5-2) had 11 hits with Collin Damron going 2-3 with a home run and a double. Seth Clay, Dairus Stapleton and Eli Bowen all went 2-4.

South Point had 10 hits with Christian Pritchard going 3-3, Tanner Hall 2-3 and Drew Adams 2-4.

Fairland went up 2-0 in the first. Trace Adkins was hit by a pitch, Damron walked, Stapleton reached on an error and Bowen singled.

The Pointers tied the game in the second when Travis Dillon and Hall singled, Adams reached on an error and Pritchard hit a sacrifice fly.

Fairland regained the lead with a run in the third when Damron singled and Clay doubled.

The Dragons scored five times in the fifth to lead 8-2.

Damron led off with a home run, Clay was hit by a pitch, Stapleton singled, Evan Burcham and Michael Tubbs walked, and Hayden James and Adkins singled.

South Point got two of the runs back in the bottom of the inning.

Logan Wade singled and Chris Woodard doubled him home. Dillon grounded out as the run scored.

Damron walked and then Clay, Stapleton and Bowen all singled in the sixth to make it 10-4.

Adams and Pritchard singled and Douglas Shaffer reached on an error as South Point got a run in the sixth.

Fairland made it 11-5 in the top of the seventh when James reached on an error and George had a single.

The Pointers scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

Woodard walked, Hall singled, a fly out moved the runners up and Pritchard had a two-run single.

On Monday, South Points hosts Chesapeake and Fairland visits Portsmouth.
