Gallia nips Redmen in 8 innings

GALLIPOLIS — Just one more out.

The Rock Hill Redmen needed just one more out to extend the game but the Gallipolis Blue Devils rallied for a 4-3 Ohio Valley Conference win on Thursday.

Rock Hill (6-5, 2-5) scored all three of its runs in the first inning.

Jake Blagg and Heath Carpenter singled and Sean McFann reached on Sean McFann’s bunt single to load the bases. Cody Lewis singled home a run and Kyle Stanfield had a two-run single.

Gallipolis (6-5, 3-1) got a run in the second on singles by Eric Ward and Jeremy Brumfield, a sacrifice by Josh Faro and Ryan Terry’s sacrifice fly.

The Blue Devils tied the game in the third on a bunt single by Braden Simms, a double by Kole Carter, Matt Bailey’s sacrifice fly and hits by Anthony Sipple and Ward.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth after the first two batted grounded out.

Marcus Moore drew a walk, Terry singled him to third and moved up on the throw from the outfield. John Stout was intentionally walked and Simms singled to end the game.

Moore got the win in relief. Lewis worked 72 innings and took the loss.

Rock Hill hosts Coal Grove on Monday in a league game.
