Jerry Freeman

Dec. 32, 1945 — April 14, 2016

Jerry Lee Freeman, 70, of South Point, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. The Ironton native was born Dec. 31, 1945, a son of the late Ernest and Lucille Wineki Freeman. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, M. Carol Hackworth Freeman, whom he married June 17, 1983.

Mr. Freeman was a graduate of South Point High School. He was a former security guard at the Dayton Malleable Iron Company and the McGinnis Barge for the Pinkerman Security Company. He was also a self-employed owner of Freeman Fire Extinguisher Sales and Service and loved to play the guitar.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Freeman; and a granddaughter, Jessica McCormack.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by, a stepdaughter, Melissa Bartrum, of South Point; a stepson, Jeff McCormack, of Larue; and five grandchildren, Jeffery McCormack, Matthew McCormack, Angel McCormack, Shayna Bartrum and Jordan Bartrum.

Funeral services will be noon Monday at the Phillips Funeral Home with Don Friend Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens and the visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. Veronica Runyan

Dec. 27, 1927 — April 15, 2016

Veronica (Tiny) Runyan, 88, of Ironton, died Friday, April 15, 2016, at her home. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Runyan. She was born Dec. 27, 1927, to the late Lawrence and Mary Schmeisser Compliment.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert G. (Gary) Runyan; three brothers, Lawrence Compliment, Paul Compliment and Joseph Compliment; two sisters, Evelyn Bellemy and Alice Johnson; and one son-in-law, Rick Hackworth.

She is survived by her children, Charles and Barbara Runyan, of Indiana, James and Denise Runyan, of Ironton, Patricia Hackworth, of Ironton, Barbara and Dwayne Harvey, of Tennessee, and one daughter-in-law, Debbie Runyan; her sisters, Mary (Sis) Smith, Rosie Swarts, Bobbie (Larry) Shelton; brother, John (Pat) Compliment, and brother-in-law, Bill Johnson; grandchildren, Scott, Chris, Kyle, Sara, Carrie, J.D. Pooch and Shane; great-grandchildren, Maggie, Andrea, Amaila, Robby, Katie, Jonah, Nate, Jace, Jude, Kaleba and Kaylee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Donation can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Joseph High School.

 

James Bentley, Jr.

May 4, 1935 — April 15, 2016

James Edward Bentley, Jr., 80, of Ironton, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016, at Jo-Lin Nursing Home. The Ironton native was born May 4, 1935, a son of the late James Edward and Ruth McClellan Bentley. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Fife Bentley, whom he married March 28, 1972.

Mr. Bentley was a graduate of Ironton High School, class of 1955. He was a former business owner of Southern Wine Carry Out.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Patricia McBride and Brent McBride.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kim Waldo, of New York City, New York; a son, PG (Kristen) McBride, of Sunrise Beach, Texas; a son, Michael (Debbie) McBride, of Sciotoville; a daughter, Jami (Craig) Thomas, of Ironton; a son, Chris Bentley, of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Brea McBride, Mason McBride, Luke McBride, Blake McBride, Brandon McBride, Brent McBride, Arisa Fillgrove, Taylor Fillgrove, Lauren Baker and Ty Bentley Mcbride, who is also Godson to Mr. Bentley.

Sandra Thornton

May 26, 1942 — April 15, 2016

Sandra K. Wickline Thornton, born May 26, 1942, passed away April 15, 2016, at the age of 73. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Thornton. Sandra is survived by her four children, Sondra (B.J.) Gayhart, Tammy (Dave) Stevens, Tom Thornton, Tracy (Scott) Tufts; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Jan Dillon (with whom she was living in Bowling Green, Kentucky); her brothers, David Wickline and Randy Redmond. As per Sandra’s wishes she will be cremated and buried next to her husband. No service has been scheduled at this time.

 

Donna Taylor

Donna Marie Taylor, 65, passed away April 14, 2016, at Diley Ridge Medical Center. She is survived by sons, Brian (Cindy Leedale), Allan and Aaron Taylor; sister, Mary Taylor; grandchildren, Christopher (Anna), Alyssa, Joseph, Isaiah and Cheyenne; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth; uncle, Jacob (Cheryl) Taylor. Special thanks to caregivers, Tonya Cunningham and sister, Mary for their loving care. She was preceded in death by husband, Allan “Larry” Stevenson; mother, Thelma Taylor; brother, James Taylor; and aunt, Carol McKee. Donna was a 1974 graduate of Community Hospital School of Nursing and was dedicated to her work as a registered nurse for over 30 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
