GALLIPOLIS — From mercy rule to “have mercy.”

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers lost an 11-0 mercy rule game earlier this season. But the Lady Tigers avenged that loss with a 7-4 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Gallipolis Blue Angels on Monday.

“My girls were much improved tonight from our first game with Gallia,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields. “The last time we had just one hit and tonight we banged out 12.”

Gallipolis ent up 1-0 in the first inning on singles by Allie Joe Clagg, MaKenzie Barr and Young.

Ironton erased the deficit with four runs in the third inning.

Zjaytayia Mize and Haylee Stevens singled to begin the inning. Kenzie Cremeens singled to load the bases and Aley Carmon singled to tie the game.

Ruthie Paholsky walked to force in the go-ahead run and Katie Burcham drilled a two-run single down the leftfield line to cap the rally.

Ironton opened up a 7-1 lead in the sixth.

Brooke Elswick and Mize singled and Stevens walked to load the bases. Cremeens came through with a two-run single and Carmon grounded out as a run scored.

Ironton was guilty of four errors in the seventh inning that enabled Gallipolis to score three runs before Carmon worked out of the jam.

Carmon got the win as she struck out two and walked two. Only one run was earned.

“Aley Carmon continues to do good work on the mound. We have to tighten up our defense a bit more and reduce the fielding errors behind her,” said Fields.

“All in all, we are pretty young team but I’m not going to cut them any slack. We will get better each time on the field.”

Stevens went 3-3, Mize 2-3 and Cremeens 2-4 with three RBIs to lead Ironton.

On Wednesday Ironton visits Fairland and Gallipolis hosts South Point.
