Lady Vikings have swinging time against Lady Titans

AID — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings came out swinging.
The Lady Vikings jumped on the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans from the start and kept swinging en route to a 12-0 five-inning Southern Ohio Conference win on Monday.
Symmes Valley banged out 16 hits to back Kaitlyn Payne who pitched a two-hitter. Payne struck out 10 and did not walk a batter.
“We came out and hit the ball from the start,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep said. “Payne had another nice outing for us.”
Sierra Ross, Taylor Webb and Payne were all 3-3. Stephanie Brown was 2-2 and Hannah Mays 2-3.
Symmes Valley (12-2, 8-0) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Brown walked, stole second, Webb singled and Payne doubled for a run. Tiara Hatfield grounded out as Payne scored.
The lead went to 6-0 in the second.
Ross singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Hannah Mays. A stolen base and wild pitch moved Mays to third and Brown singled her home.
Brown stole second and Webb and Payne followed with RBI singles.
Symmes Valley put the game away with six runs in the fourth.
Mays, Brown and Webb all singled for a run. Payne singled to load the bases and Hatfield doubled home two runs. Sarah Kingery and Ross followed with RBI singles and Cailtlyn Carpenter hit into a fielder’s choice as a run scored.
Symmes Valley hosts New Boston on Tuesday.
