Bobcats roll past Tartans, 17-0

FRANKLIN FURNACE — Unlike the song, the Green Bobcats took care of business but didn’t work overtime. In fact, they quit early.

Green pounded out 17 hits en route to a 17-0 five-inning Southern Ohio Conference win over the Sciotoville East Tartans on Wednesday.

“We took care of business. Tanner Kimbler threw a nice game. He had a big game for a freshman and he had three hits to help himself,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

“Hunter Lewis and Dakota Martin both had some key hits for us. We got a lot of contributions.”

Kimbler struck out nine, walked one and allowed only two hits for the the win.

Green (10-8, 8-0) went in front 2-0 in the first inning.

Kimbler singled, stole second and scored on Rylee Maynard’s base hit. Maynard stole second and came home on Josh Karshner’s base hit.

Green then scored seven runs in the second.

Hayden Whitis doubled, Tyler Darnell walked, a passed ball moved the runners up and they scored on Lewis’ base hit. Kimbler singled and Maynard had two-run single.

Maynard went to second on a throw home and scored on Tayte Carver’s base hit. Carver stole second and Karshner singled him home. Tyler Johnson later singled home Karshner.

The Bobcats scored seven more runs in the third to lead 16-0.

Darnell walked, Lewis singled and Kimbler had an RBI single. Brayden Bush singled for a run, Tanner Baldridge walked, Drew Ramey was hit by a pitch to force in a run and then Dakota Martin and Derek Brown singled home two runs each..

The final run scored in the fourth when Bush was hit by a pitch, Tayte Carver doubled and Ramey grounded out as the run scored.

Kimbler was 3-3, Maynard and Lewis 2-2, Kashner 2-2 with a double, and Tayte Carver 2-3 with a double. Brown, Martin and Bush were all 1-1 while Trevor Carver and Whitis both had a double.

Green hosts Ironton St. Joseph on Thursday.
