Symmes Creek committees host

CHESAPEAKE — The Symmes Creek Restoration Committee will host their annual Fun Float its weekend.

Joseph Benning, the chairman of the board for the group, said canoes and kayaks will launch from Sky Lake, located at 1543 Eaton Road in Chesapeake, at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Recovery will take place at the Chesapeake boat launch ramp, and shuttle service will be available back to cars, Benning said.

“If you haven’t tried canoeing and kayaking, this is your chance,” Benning said, adding that the group will have canoes, kayaks and lifejackets free for use to the public, first come, first served.

He said the group is trying to promote stewardship and use of Symmes Creek.

“It’s an asset we have here in Lawrence County,” Benning said.

He said the group organized a float last year. Work clearing the ramp this year will be done by Ron Callaway of Ro-Lo Excavating.
