GALLIPOLIS — It’s a seven-inning game, not six.
The South Point Pointers scored three unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning as they rallied to beat the Gallipolis Blue Devils 5-3 on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
South Point went up 1-0 in the first inning when Doug Shaffer singled, Chris Woodard doubled, and Brandon Layne reached on an error.
Gallipolis (10-7, 7-2) answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on singles by Matt Bailey, Anthony Sipple, Jeremy Brumfield and Ryan Terry.
The Blue Devils went up 3-1 in the fourth when Zach Graham singled and went to second on a passed ball, Braden Simms sacrificed him to third and Kole Carter hit a sacrifice fly.
The Pointers cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth.
Layne singled, stole second, went to third on Drew Adams sacrifice bunt and scored on a passed ball.
South Point then got three runs in the seventh.
Tanner Hall was hit by a pitch and Brandin Jackson put down a sacrifice. Shaffer reached on an error as Hall scored to tie the game.
An out later, Logan Wade singled to score Shaffer who had moved up on a wild pitch. Wade went to third on the throw home and scored on a passed ball.
