CHESAPEAKE — Patience is a virtue. It’s also the key to good hitting.

The Rock Hill Redmen used patience to collect 11 hits and back the three-hit pitching of Sean McFann as they beat the Chesapeake Panthers 9-1 on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We hit the ball. We were patient and hit good pitches,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

“Sean McFann threw the ball real well and limited them to three hits. It was a good ballgame for us.”

McFann struck out four and walked three in going the distance.

Jake Blagg was 2-2 with three runs scored, Brandon Schot 2-3 and Kaleb Kidd 2-4 to lead the Rock Hill offense.

Rock Hill (8-6, 3-6) went in front 2-0 in the first inning.

Blagg and Heath Carpenter walked and McFann sacrificed them up a base. Schob and Kidd then had RBI singles.

Chesapeake got a run in the top of the third when Kobe McWhorter tripled and Kelton Jones hit a sacrifice fly.

Rock Hill answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

McFann, Schob and Cody Lewis all walked to load the bases. Kidd singled home two runs and Jaret Bacorn squeezed home Lewis.

The Redmen got a run in the fourth when Blagg walked, stole second and third and scored on Carpenter’s base hit.

Rock Hill put the game away with three runs in the sixth.

Blagg singled, stole second and scored on McFann’s base hit. An error sent McFann to second and he scored on a hit by Schob. Lewis doubled and Kidd had an RBI single.

On Friday, Rock Hill plays at South Point at 12:30 p.m. Chesapeake is at Portsmouth on Thursday.
