COAL GROVE — Each team had one inning of scoring. Coal Grove just scored a little more.

The Lady Hornets got three runs in their big inning and Portsmouth had two in their inning as Coal Grove posted a 3-2 Ohio Valley Conference win last Wednesday.

Kasey Murphy pitched a six-hitter, struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter to get the win.

Portsmouth’s Andi Queen fanned five and walked one.

Coal Grove scored all its runs in the third inning.

Lauren Meyer singled, Gracie Riley bunted for a hit and Murphy singled to load the bases. Lauren Crum had an RBI single and McKenzie Moore doubled to drive in two more.

Portsmouth got both its runs in the top of the sixth.

Sharia Kearns led off the inning with a home run. Queen singled but Bailey Horsley hit into a fielder’s choice.

Semajah Parker singled and Gullett reached on an error allowing a run to score.

Coal Grove hosts Gallipolis on Monday.
