AID — The Rock Hill Redwomen stepped up to play the big programs and they stepped up pretty well.

Rock Hill took on a pair of Division I softball teams at the annual Valley of Thunder. The Redwomen lost to Hilliard Bradley 10-0 in five innings — their first loss of the season — but bounced back and beat Pickerington North 5-1.

“I think the great thing about this tournament is the fact that you know you are going to be challenged. (Symmes Valley coach Jeff) Odie (Estep) does an incredible job bringing in some great teams year in and year out,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue.

“We’re certainly thankful for the opportunity to be a part of it.”

After the early morning game against Bradley, the Redwomen turned in a strong performance to beat Pickerington North.

“We got an early wake-up call in the first game against Bradley. They came out and just flat out-played us. The great thing about today is the fact that we got an up close look at adversity and responded in such a positive way,” said Gue.

“Getting a win against Pickerington North was big for our girls. Our defense and pitching was outstanding and it had to be.”

On the day offensively, Kaci Russell was 2-for-7, Jenna Lane 2-6, Jill Hairston 3-5, Makenzi Harrah 3-6, Riann Keating 2-3 with 3 RBIs, Lily McGinnis 3-6 and an RBI, Anna Darby 1-6 and Madison Harper added an RBI.
