Pointers outscore Trojans

PORTSMOUTH — Care for some offense?

South Point and Portsmouth combined for 25 runs and 23 hits as they Pointers beat the Trojans 15-10 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

South Point (10-6, 6-5) had 12 hits with Chris Woodard going 3-5 with two doubles and Tanner Hall 3-4 and a double. Drew Adams was 2-4 with a double.

Ryan Williams was 3-4 with a double and Vincent Schwarberger 2-4 and a double for Portsmouth.

Portsmouth took a 2-0 lead in the third but South Point answered with an 8-run outburst in the fourth.

Woodard doubled, Brandon Layne singled, Logan Wade and Johathan Henline both reached on errors, Travis Dillon and Drew Adams singled, Christian Pritchard was safe on an error, Douglas Shaffer singled and Woodard got his second hit in the inning with a double.

Portsmouth used two errors to score three runs in the bottom of the inning only to have the Pointers scored five in the fifth.

Hall singled, Henline was hit by a pitch Dillon reached on an error and Drew Adams doubled. Shaffer walked and Woodard capped the rally with an RBI single.

After Portsmouth got within 13-10 in the sixth, South Point got two insurance runs in the seventh.

Pritchard was hit by a pitch, Woodard reached on an error, and Wade and Hall reached on a fielder’s choice.

South Point visits Ironton on Wednesday.
