Lady Hornets hit way by Gallia

COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets found out you can use a lot of hits to erase your mistakes.

Despite committing five errors, the Lady Hornets banged out 17 hits and beat the Gallipolis Blue Angles 9-7 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Gallipolis used two errors to help score two runs in the first.

Coal Grove got a run in the bottom of the inning on a single by Lauren Meyer and a double by Lauren Crum.

Two more errors and single by Jenna Meadows gave Gallipolis a 3-1 lead in the second. Shelby Long doubled and Paxton Roberts singled to make it 4-1in the third.

But Coal Grove scored five times in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good.

Meyer and Gracie Riley singled and Kasey Murphy belted a three-run homer to tie the game.

Crum doubled and Khylee Keaton and Delaney Napier singled for a 5-4 lead. Shelby Zerkle walked and Meyer had a single for a run.

Coal Grove added two runs in the fourth.

Murphy singled, Crum walked and Moore singled. Keaton grounded out for an RBI and Napier singled in the second run.

The Blue Angels got a run in the fifth on singles by Young and Long, an error and a Roberts’ ground out.

Gallipolis got within 8-7 in the sixth when Allie Jo Clagg walked, Copley doubled in a run and two groundouts scored Copley.

The Lady Hornets added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a hit by Moore and Keaton’s double.

Murphy got the win. She struck out three, walked two and only three runs were earned.

Coal Grove visits Fairland on Wednesday and South Point on Friday.
