CHESAPEAKE — Kolton Webb stayed down and he kept the Fairland Dragons’ bats down there with him.

Webb pitched a four-hitter as the Chesapeake Panthers downed the Dragons 8-3 on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Webb struck out six, walked two and hit two batters in going the distance.

“Kolton had a lot of quick innings. He only threw 74 pitches which is a big boost for us. He did a great job keeping the ball down and hitting spots for the most part,” said Panthers’ coach Justin Davis.

Fairland took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a single by Trace Adkins and Collin Damron’s two-run homer.

But Webb only allowed two hits the rest of the game and the Panthers rallied for the win.

Chesapeake tied the game in the second.

Blake Ashworth walked and Dalton Nida doubled him home. Austin Browning and Kelton Jones both walked a Nida scored on a wild pitch.

Chesapeake took the lead with three runs in the fifth.

Casey McComas tripled and Webb singled him home. Kobe McWhorter added an RBI single and Jamey Mills grounded out as a run scored.

Fairland got a run in the top of the sixth but the Panthers answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on singles by Austin Browning and McComas, Webb’s two-run double and Dakota Blankenship’s RBI single.

“We hit up and down our lineups. We were pretty balanced,” said Davis.

Webb went 3-4 and McComas 2-4 as the Panthers got nine hits.

On Monday, Chesapeake visits Coal Grove and Fairland hosts South Point.
