To error is human, but really?

The Ironton Lady Fighting were guilty of six errors that led to four unearned runs in a 6-2 Ohio Valley Conference loss to the Coal Grove Lady Hornets on Thursday.

The game originally began on April 22 but was interrupted by rain after one batter in the bottom of the first.

Coal Grove was able to capitalize on Ironton’s mistakes to score three runs in the first inning.

Lauren Meyer singled, stole second and moved up on an error. Kasey Murphy grounded out as the run scored.

Lauren Crum and McKenzie Moore both reached on two-out errors and Khylee Keaton had a two-run single.

Ironton got within 3-2 in the second inning.

Haleigh Rowe singled, stole second and Shay Cox doubled her home. Katie Burcham followed with an RBI single.

The Lady Hornets got the two runs back in the third.

Crum had a one-out single and went to second on an error. Moore and Keaton had singles to plate a run and Delaney Napier hit a sacrifice fly.

Coal Grove’s final run scored in the fourth when Meyer singled with one out, stole second and third and scored on Murphy’s base hit.

Murphy got the win as she struck out four, gave up 10 hits and did not walk a batter.

Aley Carmon took the loss with an eight-hitter as she fanned four and walked one.

Meyer, Murphy and Keaton were all 2-4. Keaton had three RBIs and Murphy two.

Burcham was 2-4 and Rylie Vaughn 2-3 to pace Ironton.
