Lady Vikings close out SOC with win over Lady Eagles

BEAVER — When they Symmes Valley Lady Vikings bounce back, it has a lot of spring in it.

After two tough losses to league champion Portsmouth Clay, the Lady Vikings rebounded with a 16-4 rout of the Eastern Lady Eagles on Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“It was a good way to end conference play. The kids played well tonight. They rebounded well after two tough losses,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Symmes Valley (17-5, 12-2) had 13 hits led by Taylor Webb who was 4-5 with a double and a home run.

Sarah Kingery was 2-2 while Kailtyn Payne and Stephanie Brown were 2-4 with a double.

Payne went 3.1 innings to get the win while Kingery finished up. Payne fanned five and walked four while Kingery struck out one and did not walked anyone.

The Lady Vikings got two runs in the first.

Brown walked and Webb doubled her home. Webb moved up on a wild pitch and Kingery reached on an error as the run scored.

The lead went to 5-0 in the third inning.

Brown doubled, and Webb and Payne singled for a run. Tiara Hatfield hit into a fielder’s choice for an RBI and Kingery followed with a run-scoring single.

Symmes Valley got two runs in the top of the fourth.

Kara Saunders singled, Brown was safe on a fielder’s choice but Webb cranked a two-run homer to centerfield.

After Eastern got two runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Vikings erupted for six runs in the fifth to lead 13-2.

Kingery and Caitlin Carpenter singled and Saunders and Hannah Mays both reached on errors for two runs. Brown doubled off the fence to clear the bases.

Webb then singled and Payne hit a sacrifice fly. Webb scored the final run on a wild pitch.

The Lady Eagles got two runs in the bottom of the inning but the Lady Vikings answered with three runs in the sixth to end the game.

Kingery walked, Sierra Ross was hit by a pitch, Carpenter sacrificed the runners up a base and the Saunders, Brown and Webb all reached on errors to drive in runs.

Symmes Valley plays Central Crossing at 3 p.m. and Circleville at p.m. Saturday at the Gahanna Tournament.
