Dwight Moretto

Sept. 10, 1979 — May 8, 2016

Dwight T. Moretto, 36, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016, at his residence. The Nuremberg, West Germany, native was born Sept. 10, 1979, a son of William F. Moretto of Harlem, Georgia, and Teresa Ratliff Moretto, of Ironton.

Dwight was a 1998 graduate of Ironton High School and a U.S. Army veteran. Dwight was also a graduate of Northwestern College in Lima. He was a former boiler for AK Steel Coke Plant, was of the Baptist faith and a member of the VFW Post 8850.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Preston; maternal grandparents, Joann Stewart Ratliff and Emerson Ratliff; and paternal grandfather, Tom Moretto.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Blake Moretto, of Coal Grove; two brothers, Billy (Chrystal) Moretto, of South Point, and Andy Moretto, of Ironton; a sister, Melissa (Nobel) Bowman, of Louisa, Kentucky; paternal grandmother, Anita Moretto, of Columbus; two nieces, Joann (Andrew) Waldroff, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Merissa Bowman, of North Carolina; a nephew, Avery Bowman, of Louisa, Kentucky; two great-nephews, Zander Cotterman, of North Carolina, and Quinten Bowman, of Louisa, Kentucky; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Aaron Abner officiating. Burial will follow in Melvin Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850. Rev. William Miller

Dec. 29, 1942 — May 10, 2016

The Rev. William Joe Miller, 73, of Kitts Hill, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center with his family at his side.

He was born Dec. 29, 1942, a son of the late Walter E. Miller and the late Mabel Anson. He was the pastor of Freedom Baptist Church located at Eighth and McGovney in Ironton. Pastor Miller was a Christian and dedicated to the Lord. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Miller Jr. and Roy Miller; and two sisters, Annie Shug and Wilma Blevins.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years whom he married on Aug. 8, 1959, Betty Lou Pruitt Miller; five sons and their spouses, Joey (Judy) Miller, Jeff (Sarah) Miller, Kenny (Amber) Miller, Rick (Jennifer) Miller and Joe Joe (Rebecca) Miller; three sisters, Donna Watson, Ida Fout and Betty Malone; eight grandchildren, Matt, Danny, Kenny and Maddex Miller, Brittney Henry, Lasha Cremeans, Josh Keating and Allen Combs; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Freedom Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Triplett officiating. Burial will follow in the Hecla Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. on Friday at the church.

His wife has entrusted his care to Brown Funeral Chapel-Eugene Taylor-Brown Owner and Lic. Funeral Director.

 

Gary Salyers

Gary Salyers, 55, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, at his home. Arrangements are pending at Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton.

 

Robert Boggs

April 2, 1940 — May 10, 2016

Robert Boggs, 76, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 2, 1940, in Kitts Hill, to the late parents Howard Eugene and Josiephean Wellman Boggs. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Ricky Boggs.

Bob is survived by the mother of his children, Kitty Boggs; one son Robert H. (Erica) Boggs, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and one daughter, Angela Boggs-Willis, of Ironton. He was a beloved Papaw to five grandchildren, Makenzie, Laney and Jacob Boggs, Paige and Dakota Willis; and one great-grandson, Jackson Boggs. He is also survived by one sister, Betty Webb, of Ironton; and two brothers, Sam Boggs, of Athens, and Steve Boggs, of Syracuse, New York; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was a retired truck driver, a member of the Masonic Lawrence Lodge 198 of Ironton, the Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati, York Rite and the El Hasa Shrine Temple of Ashland.

Visitation is from 10-11:45 a.m. Friday followed by a graveside service at noon at Woodland Cemetery with Robert Hale officiating. O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Dwayne Howard

Dwayne Allen Howard 45, of Auburn Hills, Michigan, died Saturday, May 7, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sand Hill Church of Christ in South Shore, Kentucky. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, assisted the family with arrangements. Teddy Workman

Teddy Lee Workman, 74, of South Point, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Sheppard Workman. There will be no visitation or service. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Charlotte McGlone

Charlotte L. McGlone, 58, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She is survived by her husband, Dewey McGlone. Debra Susan Benson, 58, of Proctorville, died Monday, May 9, 2016, in her home.

Frances Gaye White Blanton, 67, of Greenup, Kentucky, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at SOMC Hospice Care Center in Portsmouth.
