Rick Carte

May 5, 1959 — May 12, 2016

Ricky Allen Carte, 57, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Cornerstone Hospital, Huntington. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Slack and Wallace Funeral, South Point, with Mitch Webb and Joe Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton.

Rick was born May 5, 1959, in Ironton, a son of Betty Martin Carte, of Ironton, and the late Delano Carte. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert Ashley Carte; a brother, Richard Carte; and a sister-in-law, Robin Carte.

He was a 1979 graduate of Ironton High School. He retired in 2015 with 16 years service from North American Refractories and was formerly employed with Rollyson’s of South Point for 20 years. Rick enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, Ironton Fighting Tigers Football and spending time with his grandson.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Patty McMahon Carte; two sons, Eric Allen Carte and Austin Emerson Carte, both of Ironton; a sister, Brenda Carte (Mark) Adkins, of Ironton; a brother, Charles David (Therese) Carte, of Ironton; a grandson, Corbin Lee Carte, of Ironton; two sisters-in-law, Kathy (Roy) Blake, of Chesapeake, and Marlene (Charles) Nichols, of Chesapeake; a brother-in-law, William (Leila) McMahon, of Heath; two aunts, Patricia (Don) Pruitt and Carolyn (Tom) Smith; nieces, Amy Jackson, Tara Short and Katlyn Adkins; nephews, Chris Carte, Tanner Carte, Kyle Adkins, Chris Blake and Jason Blake; several great-nieces and nephews; and several special friends.

Bobby Pennington

July, 4 1936 — May 13, 2016

Bobby “Bob” Gene Pennington, 79, of Hanging Rock, passed away Friday, May 13, 2016, at his residence in Hanging Rock. Bob was born July 4, 1936, in Hanging Rock, a son to the late William and Blanche (Barr) Pennington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Marshall Pennington, who passed away Dec. 15, 2013.

Bob was a graduate of Rock Hill High School. He was employed at Sement Solvay Division in Ironton and retired from McCorkle Machine Shop in Huntington as a machinist.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Krisi Lynn Bridges; a grandson, Charles William Pennington; son-in-law, Barry Bridges; brother-in-law, Bill Robinson; and a nephew, Timmy Robinson.

Bob is survived by four children, Debbie (Danny) Smathers, Bobbi (Randy) Gilmore, Greg (Sharon) Pennington and Kathi Bridges; seven grandchildren, Bobby Childers, Alicia Childers, Courtni (Ryan) Thomas, Adam (Christy Michelle) Gilmore, Travis (Erin) Gilmore, Barry Bridges II and Nick (Emily) Bridges; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat Robinson; and two brothers, Kenny (Karen) Pennington and Billy (Ruth) Pennington.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with pastor Scott Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Wanda Hively

Dec. 6, 1946 — May 12, 2016

Wanda J. Hively, 69, of Patriot, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Holzer Medical Center. Wanda was born Dec. 6, 1946, in Lawrence County, the daughter of the late Treemon and Mary Eileen Owens. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Christopher Lee Hively.

Wanda was a 1964 graduate of Symmes Valley High School and was a member of McDaniel Crossroads Church. She was a homemaker and retired from Walnut Township Trustee after 28 years of service to her community. She also served on the Gallia County Senior Services Board for many years. Wanda loved being outdoors working in her garden or flowerbeds.

She was a devoted wife of 52 years to James Lee Hively, who survives her. She is also survived by her beloved son, Brad (Armanda) Hively, of Higginsport. She was immensely proud of her beautiful grandchildren, Kala Cisler, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Krystal (Bryce) Darst, of Cheshire, Leanne Hively and their dear mother, Allison Hively, of Bidwell, and Sophia Catherine Hively, of Higginsport. Wanda is also survived by a sister, Marie Spangler and brothers, Gary Owens and Jerry (Katie) Owens; and multiple nephews and a niece.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Willis Funeral Home with pastor Mark Crawford and the Rev. David Henson officiating. Burial will follow in Flagsprings Cemetery. Grace J. Sanders, 98, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at her residence. A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express Meeting Room in Ironton.
