More events incorporating family planned for students

CHESAPEAKE — Students at Chesapeake Elementary had a special morning with family on Monday.

The school hosted “Donuts with Dad” in the cafeteria, allowing the children to enjoy pastries with their family members.

Principal Trisha Harris said the event, in its second year, followed a similar “Muffins with Mom” morning last week. The school is planning a grandparents event for the fall. She said such activities are good for community involvement.

“It’s a way to get moms and dads in here, and the kids are really excited to have breakfast and start their day with them,” she said.

Harris said more than 200 turned out for the event, which, in addition to fathers, also served grandfathers, uncles and other family members.

In addition to the breakfast, the school took a picture of each family, and made prints.

The school has more events planned for the coming weeks. Graduating students from Chesapeake High School will visit on Wednesday for a senior walk at 9 a.m., something Harris said she hopes will become a tradition, while the school’s carnival is set for 4 p.m. April 26.
