Willis leads D2 regional qualifiers

ROCKSPRINGS — And the road begins again.

Two-time state qualifier Eli Willis took the first step on a return trip as he finished second in the Division II district pole vault on Tuesday.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers’ junior clear 13-feet to place second behind Fairfield Union’s Jimmy Kovatch who went 14-1.

Fairland’s Alex Naegele was fourth as he went 12-feet.

Fairland’s Drake Cox and Jonah Galloway both qualified in the discus. Cox was third at 134-5 and Galloway was fourth at 133-2.

Fairland Lady Dragons’ Allie Marshall won the high jump as she cleared 5-feet. Teammate Ciarra Brown was fourth at 4-10.

The Lady Dragons’ Jackie Wagner was fourth in the shot put at 32-4.5. Chesapeake’s Dominique Murphy was eighth at 30-7.5.

All the remaining finals are set for Saturday.

The top four qualifiers in each event advance to the regional meet.
