CHESAPEAKE — Students at Chesapeake Elementary School got a chance on Wednesday to see what the future holds for them and to congratulate the graduating class of their community’s high school.

The elementary hosted a senior walk in the morning and the high school students arrived by bus at the school in their caps and gowns to be honored.

After an introduction over the intercom by principal Trisha Harris, the procession of seniors, led by honors student Mackenzie Jones, proceeded through both floors of the school, where the elementary students lined both sides of the halls, cheering them on, shaking hands and offering high fives as “Pomp and Circumstance” played.

Following the walk, the seniors assembled in the school gym for photos and a chance to talk with the elementary school’s faculty, many of whom they knew from their childhoods.

Chesapeake High Principal Chris Smith said his school was eager to take part in the event.

“This is the first year,” he said. “Mrs. Harris called me and said she wanted to start a tradition. And you can see the impact this has.”
