Miller, Fletcher make state meet

LANCASTER — They’re going back.
Chesapeake Panthers’ sophomore sprinter Cecil Fletcher and Rock Hill Redmen senior distance runner Seth Miller are headed to the Division III state track meet next Friday and Saturday.
The top four finishers in each event of Friday’s Division III regional meet qualified for the state meet.
Fletcher was second in the 400-meter dash with a 50.16 clocking. Jerome Buckner of Columbus Academy won the event with a 49.80 time.
Fletcher placed eighth in the 100-meter dash at 11.46 seconds.
Miller qualified in the 3200-meter run. Miller ran a 9:45.46 to place third behind Aaron Wood of Fisher Catholic who ran a 9:16.58 to set a regional meet record. Daniel Seas of Peebles was second at 9:39.65.
Coal Grove’s 4×400 relay team of Kyle Sites, Nathaniel Brumett, Nathan Harmon and Joey Workman was eighth with a 3:36.91 time.
Workman finished fifth in the high jump with a leap of 6-1.
The Lady Hornets’ Courtlyn Lewis cleared 8-feet and was seventh in the pole vault.
The meet will be held at Jesse Owens’ Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University.
The 400-meter dash preliminaries will be at 11:10 a.m. on Friday. The finals will be held at 10:35 a.m. on Saturday.
The 3200-meter run will be held at 11:25 a.m. on Saturday. The girls will run first followed by the boys.
