Geraldine Thacker

Aug. 16, 1949 — May 31, 2016

Geraldine “Belle” Thacker, 66, of Olympia, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at her daughter’s residence.

The Ironton native was born Aug. 16, 1949, a daughter of the late George and Fannie Spillman Adkins.

Belle attended Ironton High School and was a homemaker. She attended the Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. She was a faithful soldier for Jesus and a devout prayer warrior. She loved the Lord Jesus above all other things and sharing God’s word.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Adkins; and three sisters, Mary Jane McGuire, Rona Davis, and Jenny Sherman.

She is survived by two sons, Shayne (Angela) Thacker, of Ironton, and Waylon Thacker, of Olympia, Kentucky; a daughter, Sheila (Larry) Moore, of Olympia, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Ryan Wilson, Joshua Thacker, Shayna Thacker and Shawna Cochran, all of Ironton, and Cansace Cannon, Austin Cannon and Hunter Moore, all of Olympia, Kentucky; a great granddaughter, Destiny Logan, of Olympia, Kentucky; two brothers, Paul Adkins, of Ironton, and Mark Adkins, of Canton; five sisters, Phyliss Ramey and Georgia Case, both of Freemont, JoAnne Haynes, of Franklin Furnace, Karen Shaffer, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Jackie Campbell, of Grayson, Kentucky.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Brother David Kiser officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Paul Cunningham

Oct. 31, 1937 — May 24, 2016

Paul Cunningham, 78, of Coal Grove, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

The Portsmouth native was born Oct. 31, 1937, a son of the late James and Effie Simpson Cunningham. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Stormes Cunningham, who passed away, Jan. 1, 2000.

Mr. Cunningham was a graduate of Ironton High School and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired from CSX Railroad, after 45 years of service there and was a member of the Jeffersonville Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a longtime trustee.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Cunningham; and a son-in-law, Barry Patterson.

He is survived by three daughters, Tammy Patterson and Paula (Chris) Martin, all of Ironton, and Joyce Cunningham, of Wesco, Texas; a son, Brian (Anita) Cunningham, of Huntington, West Virginia; nine grandchildren, Michael (Jamie) Cunningham, of Coal Grove, B.J. Patterson, of Ashland, Kentutky, Derek (Amanda) Cunningham, of Ceredo-Kenova, West Virginia, Brandon Cunningham, of Coal Grove, Christopher (Jackie) Martin, of Fort Gay, West Virginia, Amber Martin, of St. Lucia, Florida, Aaron (Amanda) Gully, of Coal Grove, Darren Gully, of Coal Grove, and Nathan (Holly) Gully, of Ashland, Kentucky; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ellis Cunningham, of Ashland, Kencutky; and a special friend, Dee Carpenter.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Roger Pierce officiating.
