Donations to benefit Alzheimer’s Association

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Zumbathon is set for 6:30 p.m. July 21 to help raises funds and awareness in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease.

The two-hour event, co-led by Toni Karle, the owner of Chateau D’Italia in Chesapeake, and her daughter Francesca Karle, is open to all and will take place at Absolute Fitness, located at 6005 U.S. Route 60 East in Huntington.

There is no fee to participate, but donations are encouraged, which will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.

“We have done a lot of Zumbathons,” Toni Karle said. “This one is coinciding with The Longest Day.”

The Longest Day is a team event, hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association, which takes place on the summer solstice of July 21.

“It celebrates healing of the mind, spirit and body for people dealing with Alzheimer’s and their families,” she said.

She’s been involved in Alzheimer’s-related events in the past.

Debbie Campbell, the daughter of musician Glen Campbell, who suffers from the disease, appeared at an event at Chateau D’Italia last fall.

Karle said in November, she will go to Phoenix to take pat in an Alzheimer’s Walk with members of the Campbell family.

She said the Zumbathon is open to all experience levels, from first timers to those who’ve done it for years.

“You can just go in do what you want,” she said.

Refreshments will be served after the event. For more information, contact Toni Karle at 304-208-4525.
