James Blair

Sept. 8, 1924 — June 17, 2016

James E. “Skeeter” Blair, Sr. 91 of Portsmouth, died Friday, June 17, 2016, at the SOMC Hospice Care Center in Portsmouth. He was born Sept. 8, 1924, in Ashland, to the late John and Louie Robinett Blair. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Donna Jean Ainsworth Blair; one son, James E. Blair Jr.; two brothers, Leroy and Carl; and three sisters, Mary, Ruth and Evelyn. James had retired from the Dayton Mallable Foundry in Ironton, was a member of the Truth Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Wheelersburg and loved spending all his time with his family.

James is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Jess) Pritchard and Jane (Rod) Ferro; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his loved dog, Gizmo.

A Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Truth Tabernacle Church in Wheelersburg, with pastor Robert Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Haverhill Cemetery. Gary Phillips

March 5, 1946 — June 24, 2016

Gary L. Phillips, 70, of Kernersville, North Carolina, formerly of Ironton, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was born March 5, 1946, in Lawrence County, the son of the late James and Odessa Barker Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Sharilyn Arden Phillips.

Gary was a graduate of Decatur Washington High School and attended Ohio University. He was a member of the Waterloo Masonic Lodge 532. Gary formerly worked at Dayton Malleable in Ironton. He spent the past 20-plus years assisting his wife, Sharilyn, in building their National Area with a direct selling company. Gary cherished the many special friendships he developed through their work and travel.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Haskins and Margaret Horsley; and one brother, Jack Phillips.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two daughters, Lori Hankins and Megan (Rick) Rice, both of Kernersville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Ashley Jayne Gallion, Tyler Jayne, McKinley Rice, and Landon Rice; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Ava Gallion; two sisters, Freda Phillips and Bernice Gillespie, both of Ironton; and one brother, Alonzo Beair, of Pedro.

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike White officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point. Friends may call Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

 

Patricia Kiser

Dec. 24, 1941 — June 22, 2016

Patricia Luvene Kiser, 74, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at her residence. The Blackfork native was born Dec. 24, 1941, a daughter of the late John Herchel Edwards and Ellen Rankins Edwards. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Phillip Z. Kiser.

Mrs. Kiser was a graduate of the Decatur-Washington School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids and playing the piano. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Crystal (Keith) Addis Kouns, Mary Kiser Leach, both of Ironton, Melissa Gail Kiser Atkins, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Kimberly (Chuck) Lynn Kiser McKnight, of Coal Grove; a son, Phillip Byron (Cary) Kiser, of Deering; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Leith, Joanna Leith, John (Amanda) Leith, Brandon Leach, all of Ironton, Taylor Nichole (Allen) Klaiber, of Franklin Furnace, Charles Caleb McKnight, of Coal Grove, Sophia Ellen Luvene Atkins, of Ashland, Kentucky, Cheyenne Whitt, Logan Whitt, and Autumn Kiser, all of Deering; and seven great-grandchildren.

Doris Hale

Doris Polley Hale, 94, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Donte Jackson at the First Baptist Church of Huntington, 801 Sixth Ave. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington, West Virginia. Frances Jenkins

June 25, 1933 — June 24, 2016

Frances Laverne Falls Jenkins, 82, of Ironton, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. The Coreyville native was born June 25, 1933, the daughter of the late John Homer, and Lillie Wills Falls. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Okey Hayes Jenkins, who passed away Sept. 15, 2006.

Mrs. Jenkins was a graduate of Ironton High School and a homemaker. She was an active member of the PTA at Central Elementary, where she served as president for a year. She was a member of the Gateway Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a loving and devoted mother, who enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Richard Falls; and an infant daughter, Jennifer Jenkins.

She is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline (Gary) Scurlock, of Iroquois, Illinois, and Jerrianne (Bill) Tussey, of Ironton; three sons, John (Tammi) Jenkins, of Jacksonville, Florida, Jeff (Jami) Jenkins and Jim (Clara) Jenkins, all of Ironton; seven grandchildren, Whitney (Justin) Ericson, of Durham, North Carolina, Brandon (Kristen) Jenkins, of Jacksonville, Florida, Hannah Tussey, of Ironton, J.T. (Valerie) Jenkins, of Lexington, Kentucky, Jenna (Eric) Pozzobon, of Woodstock, Canada, Erin Jenkins and Kerrie Jenkins, both of Ironton; two great-grandchildren, Easton Jenkins, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Maxwell Jenkins, of Lexington, Kentucky; two sisters, Patricia (George) Woody, of Duluth, Minnesota, and Constance (Gary) Carrico, of Coal Grove. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Gateway Baptist Church, Ironton, with pastor Scott Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery and visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Robert Hall

Oct. 31, 1953 — June 24, 2016

Robert Glenn Hall, 62, of Pedro, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 31, 1953, a son to the late Saul and Hazel (Ramsey) Hall. Mr. Hall is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda (Joseph) Hall.

Mr. Hall was 1971 graduate of Rock Hill High School. Robert went on to work at Kroger where he retired after 33 years of service. Robert also worked eight years in Laborers Local 83 in Portsmouth. He was a member of Royersville Missionary Baptist Church in Pedro which he loved. He also was a member of the Southern Ohio Dog Club and enjoyed woodwork and hunting.

In addition to his wife Linda, Robert is survived by a son, Jeremy (Amy) Hall, of Pedro; two grandchildren, Katie and Taylor Hall, both of Pedro; a brother, Pete (Becky) Hall, of Kinsman; a sister, Gretchen (Paul) Medinger, of Pedro; a pet, Fuzz (his dog); and numerous nieces and nephews that adored their Uncle Robbie.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a son, George Robert Hall.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastors Dave Schug and Mike Huff officiating. Burial will follow at Lawrence Furnace Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Amelia June Erdy, 92, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point.
