Like father, like son. Like mother, like son. Like brother, like brother.
That’s how it is for Chase Wood who is the No. 1 ranked high school tennis player in Texas.
Wood is the son of Donie Wood who played at Arkansas. Chase is the grandson of former Ironton furniture store owners Steve and Brenda Wood and the great-grandson of Ironton’s Dr. Vernon Wood and Don Koster.
Chase Wood, 17, recently committed to Florida State University to play at the collegiate level. He also considered Tennessee, Texas, Alabama and Texas Tech.
Chase’s mother Shari played at Tennessee while brother Nick plays tennis at Georgia. Also, brother Matt plays baseball at Chattanooga State.
Shari Wood was the 1987 Tennessee MVP, three-time All-SEC and three-time Academic All-SEC.
Donie Wood still ranks fourth on Arkansas’ all-time winning percentage for a single season. He attended Ironton schools before the family moved to Florida.
