John Barber

Feb. 5, 1954 — June 24, 2016

John Gregory Barber, 62, of Albany, formerly of Dayton, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was born Feb. 5, 1954, in Dayton, son of John Ward Barber of Albany and the late Betty Ruth Wiley Barber.

Greg was a former machinist, a member of the Delta Lodge 207 F&AM in McArthur and the McArthur VFW Post 5299.

He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ellen (James) Heidenreich, of Dayton; son, John Gregory (Jennifer) Barber, of Dayton; three grandchildren; brother, Roger Barber; sister, Darlene (Paul) Barber-Morris and nieces and nephews, Jennifer Brooks, Roger Barber Jr., Rachel Barber and Jessica Barber.

In addition to his mother, Greg is preceded in death by his nephew, Michael Ward Barber.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, July 9 at the McArthur VFW Post 5299, 401 Veterans Memorial Drive, McArthur. No calling hours will be observed.

Arrangements are by Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur.

Alyce Roseberry

June 7, 1929 — June 29, 2016

Alyce Johnson Day Roseberry, 87, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Alyce was born June 7, 1929, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, to the late Wylie and Nora McDavid Johnson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Charles Day and James Stanley Roseberry; one brother, Wylie Johnson Jr.; two sisters, Mary Wilcox and Loraine Hamilton; and one great-grandson, Logan Elijah Gilliam.

Alyce was a retired teacher with Greenup County Schools and taught at McKell Elementary. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, South Shore Chapter, El Hasa motorettes and Greenup County Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of Moore Street Tabernacle.

She leaves behind her loving daughter, Krista Day (David Miller), of Argillite, Kentucky; one sister Elizabeth Ratliff, of Flatwoods, Kentucky; one grandson, Joshua D. Gilliam, of Ashland; three great-grandchildren, Hadley Grey Turrill, Lilyanna Grace Ratliff and Kashton D. Gilliam; along with a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood, Kentucky, with pastor Daniel Kunselman officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. and one hour prior to service Saturday.

Michael Wilks

Michael Ray “Buckshot” Wilks, 59, of Chesapeake, died Monday, June 20, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Moose Lodge 2586 Route 60 Huntington.
