DOVER — Coming from a town with a great football tradition may have confused the Ironton Little League 9-10-year-old All-Stars.

In a football-like performance, Ironton rolled past the Cambridge All-Stars 18-6 on Wednesday at the state tournament.

Ironton amassed 23 hits en route to the lopsided win.

“We came right out from the start and hit the ball from top to bottom. We also played solid defense,” said Ironton manager Travis Wylie.

“We were able to save some pitching due to only having to play four innings. The kids are really enjoying this experience and we hope to hang around here in Dover until this weekend.”

Jonathon Wylie not only went the first two innings to get the win, he was 3-3 with two doubles, two walks and three runs batted in.

Braden Schreck also went 3-3 with three RBIs while Maddox Vass was 3-3 and two RBIs.

Connor Kleinman was 3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs and Ian Ginger was 3-3.

Brady Moatz was 2-3 with a double and two RBIs, Tommy Sheridan 2-4 with an RBI, Hunter Freeman 1-3 and three RBIs, Owen Johnson 2-3 and an RBI and Drew Brown was 1-1.

After a scoreless first inning, Ironton erupted for 11 runs in the second inning and never looked back. The ILL stars scored seven more runs in the fourth inning to get up the mercy-rule win.
