PINE GROVE — The Gallipolis Blue Devils came out swinging.

The Ironton Invitational Golf Tournament began the high school season on Monday and Gallipolis came away with the team title.

The defending Ohio Valley Conference champions had a 339 team scored to finish ahead of runner-up Fairview with a 351 total and the third-place Coal Grove Hornets with a 353 score.

Jackson at 354 was next followed by the Chesapeake Panthers at 381, the Fairland Dragons at 388, the Rock Hill Redmen at 404, the host Ironton Fighting Tigers 413, Gallipolis B-team 428, Alexander 452 and the South Point Pointers 500.

The Portsmouth Trojans had only two entries and did not have a team score.

Chesapeake’s Derek Lemley took individual medalist honors with a 70 and led the all-tournament team.

Also on the all-tournament team were Coal Grove’s Trevor Deere at 74, Rock Hill’s Logan Reed with a 75, Tanner Manning of Fairview 77 and Jared LeMaster of Jackson at 80.
