It’s very much off the beaten path, but Collins Career and Technical Center is making sure the community knows it’s still out there.

On Monday, the school hosted a community block party in Ironton to inform the public about its many degree and certification options, and to have a little fun with some live entertainment and food.

CCTC has more than two dozen accredited programs or programs that offer state and national certification exams for students. These range from auto mechanic, electrical, police academy and welding programs to various medical programs.

And some of the programs offered by CCTC are some of the most sought after requirements for people trying to find a job in the Tri-State.

Across the country, 8.4 million individuals are seeking postsecondary certificates and associate degrees in career and technical fields.

For high school students who enroll, the programs prepare students to be college- and career-ready by providing academic skills, employability skills and technical, job-specific skills.

Lawrence County is truly lucky to have such a facility right here so prospective students can earn his or her education in their community with the goal of being employed in their own community.

Thank you, CCTC for continuing to reach out into the community.
