Barbara Taylor

April 14, 1933 — Aug. 8, 2016

Barbara Lee Taylor, 83, of Coal Grove, passed away Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at a local health care facility in Ironton. Mrs. Taylor was born April 14, 1933, in Gary, West Virginia, a daughter to the late Glenn V. and Margaret (Stevens) Kelly.

Mrs. Taylor received her certification in accounting from Jackson County Vocation School in 1975. She was a homemaker, retired ward clerk for Pinecrest Hospital in Beckley, West Virginia, and employee of the Sybene Senior Citizen Center. She was a lady of great faith and a member of the Ashland Assembly of God. She passes down a legacy of her love for nature that she shared with her daughters and grandchildren and she will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Nancy Kelly; and sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Paul Pearson.

She is survived by four daughters, Barbara “Bobbi” Taylor-Wilcox, of Ashland, Kentucky, Deborah Ann (Darrell) Taylor-Thompson, of South Point, Regina Taylor-Barker, of Berea, Kentucky, and Glenda (William Mayo Martin) Taylor-Martin, of Flatwoods, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Charles Shields officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be noon until time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. William Slone

March 30, 1937 — Aug. 7, 2016

William Everett Slone, 79, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. The Lawrence County native was born March 30, 1937, a son of the late Paris and Bessie Hamilton Slone. He is survived by his wife, Oleda Mae McIntyre Slone.

Mr. Slone was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a former employee for CSX Railroad, retiring after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Eagles 895, Moose 791, and the VFW Post 8850 and attended Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelia Kay Slone; two sons, William E. Slone, Jr. and Steve Church; three brothers, Ronnie Slone, Jim Slone, and Charles Slone;

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Karla G. (Jeff) Lucas, of Ironton, and Barbara (David) Riley, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky; three sons, Tommy Workman, of Greenup, Kentucky, Mike (Cindy) Church and Sam (Sonda) Church, all of Tennessee; a brother, Gary Slone, of Ironton; five grandchildren, Julie Church, Tyler Church, Maddy Hensley, all of Ironton, Howie (Amber) Lucas, of Bakersfield, California, and Misty Salyers, of Coal Grove; good friends, Emma Roberts and Larry Good; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery with graveside military rites by the VFW Post 8850. Jimmie Vallance

Nov. 24, 1942 — Aug. 9, 2016

Jimmie Lee Vallance, 73, of Kitts Hill, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. The Muncie, Indiana, native was born Nov. 24, 1942, a son of the late Elza and Flossie Collins Vallance. He is survived by his wife, Linda Harper Vallance, whom he married July 28, 1967.

Mr. Vallance attended Green High School and was a former operator for the Ohio Operating Engineers Union for 35 years. He was also of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Clarence Vallance and Donald Ray Vallance; and two sisters, Mary Ruth Turner and Cledith Strahand.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jimmie L. (Jennifer) Vallance II, of Flatwoods, Kentucky; a sister, Linda Ison, of Mansfield; two grandchildren, James Vallance and Sierra Vallance, both of Ironton.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sugar Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Homer Campbell officiating. There will be no public visitation and Phillips Funeral Home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
