Mickey Fisher may be a famous Hollywood writer and producer, but he never forgets his hometown or alma mater.

Thanks to the efforts of Fisher, the Ironton Fighting Tigers’ cross country team will be one of only three high schools in American to view the new sports teen comedy “Varsity Punks.”

The new independent film that has just finished post-production and is currently being submitted to various film festivals.

But the Ironton cross country team will view it Friday following the movie party that begins at 8 p.m. The screening is set to begin between 9:15-9:30 p.m.

The film is being hosted by writer/producer/director Anthony Solorzano and will come to Ironton to help publicize the film through social media.

The film’s synopsis is about the most popular and coolest guy at school — the star quarterback — who breaks his hand in his senior year. His only athletic hope is to team up with the “uncoolest” sport on campus and his longtime rivals: the cross country team.

The cross country team is comprised of nerds, misfits and punks who have the potential for high school glory.

The film is scheduled for release in the late summer/fall.
