CANNONSBURG, Ky. — The South Point Pointers did a lot of things better than the Boyd County Lions on Friday night.

Unfortunately, they did a couple of things not so good and it was the difference.

The Pointers outgained the Lions 237 to 211 in total yardage but were guilty of losing four fumbles — one that was returned for a touchdown as they were going in for a score.

Boyd County (3-0) took a 7-0 lead on a Christian Braly’s 1-yard run with 7:06 left in the first quarter.

Owen Chafin then broke off a 67-yard run to the Lions’ 2-yard line and the Pointers appeared poised to tie the game or take the lead.

But South Point fumbled the ball and Dalton Adkins did a “scoop and score” as he returned the miscue 98 yards for a touchdown with 6:25 on the clock. Ludwig Jaderberg kick the second of five conversion and it was 14-0.

The Lions increased their lead to 21-0 on a 34-yard gallop by Braly with 8:43 left in the half.

Braly finished the game with 144 yards on 20 carries and four touchdowns.

South Point (0-2) didn’t quit as John Kuhn ran 10 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. He also added the conversion and it was 21-8 at the 2:34 mark.

But Braly had an 11-yard scoring run to start the fourth quarter to make it 28-8 and he later returned a punt 35 yards for a touchdown to complete the scoring.

South Point ran for 186 yards as Chafins had 93 yards on eight carries. Brandin Jackson was 5-of-9 passing for 51 yards.

The Pointers host River Valley next Friday.
