Helton, Pointers win

SOUTH POINT — Merrick Harris is quickly becoming the Mad Hatter.
Helton had his second “hat trick” this week as his three goals helped the South Point Pointers beat the Chesapeake Panthers 6-3 in an Ohio Valley Conference soccer game on Thursday.
Merrick Harris, Drew Smith and Jimmy Hart also scored goals for the Pointers. Smith also had an assist while goalkeeper Jordan Perkey had eight saves.
Helton and Harris had unassisted goals to put the Pointers up 2-0 10 minutes into the game.
Dimitri Callens and David Dotson scored unassisted goals for the Panthers to tie the game before Hart used an assist from Smith to put the Pointers up 3-2 at the half.
The Panthers tied the game to begin the second half before Smith and Helton scored to give South Point the lead for good.
Dalton Nida scored for the Panthers but Helton got his third goal at the 71st minute to complete the scoring.
In the girls’ game, South Point beat Chesapeake 1-0 one a goal by Cheyenne Berkley.
South Point hosts Portsmouth West on Tuesday. The girls’ game is at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys.
