PEDRO — The South Point Lady Pointers had a tough, three-game week. They also had a successful 3-win week.

After winning in four sets against Chesapeake on Tuesday and a three-set sweep against Hannan, W.Va., on Wednesday, the Lady Pointers posted a four-set Ohio Valley Conference volleyball win over the Rock Hill Redwomen on Thursday.

“We finished a long but successful week tonight with a four-set victory over Rock Hill,” said Lady Pointer’s coach Allen Perry.

“At times, the Redwomen defense was unbreakable. (Rock Hill coach) Mary (Ferguson) has, in my opinion, one of if not the best defensive players in the OVC in Anna Darby. She digs up everything.”

Darby had 24 digs against the Lady Pointers.

South Point didn’t start very well on Thursday but rebounded to come away with a four-set win.

The Lady Pointers lost the first set 25-15 but then ran off three straight wins 25-12, 25-19 and 25-18.

Mackenzie Fugitt had nine kills and Holly Ramey seven kills to lead the South Point offense. Brooklyn Badgett had 16 assists and Selena Marcum had 20 digs.

“Reece Duncan has come up big for us this year serving and tonight was no different. She had five aces and 16 points from the service line,” said Perry.

“Defensively, libero Selena Marcum has played solid for us. Tonight she led the team with digs.”
