Funds will also pay for teen’s funeral expenses

CHESAPEAKE — A car show is set for this weekend at Chesapeake Plaza to help raise funds for a woman battling cancer.

The event, organized by Downtown Deli and Watts-N-Here, is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. Saturday.

Proceeds will go to benefit “Julie’s Journey,” for Julie Nelson, who is battling stage III colon cancer, Bobby Loy, the owner of Downtown Deli, said.

“I really want to be a part of the local community here and help as many people as I can,” Loy said. “I’m a survivor of colon cancer. For me, it hits home. I can remember myself not knowing what tomorrow would bring.”

The event will feature cash prizes, refreshments and cupcakes, Loy said. Musical performances are scheduled from Heavy Hitters, Kevin Zhea and others.

The event will also help raise funds to pay for the funeral services of Trenton Accord, a 16-year-old who lost his life over the summer.

“Everything, one hundred percent goes to the cause,” Loy said, adding that people can still set up to be vendors for $25.
