WINDSOR TOWNSHIP — Don Christian, the chief of Windsor Township’s volunteer fire department died Sunday at the age of 60.
Buddy Fry, the executive director of Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services, said Christian was taken to the emergency room as a complication of a longstanding health issue, where he died shortly afterward.
“Christian had been the township’s fire chief since the 1990s and had served in the department since the 1970s, Fry said.
He was retired from Southeast Ohio Emergency Medical Services, where he was an EMT and dispatcher.
Fry, who said he was Christian’s EMT instructor when he began his career, said he was well-liked and well-respected.
“He was an excellent EMT and an excellent dispatcher,” Fry said. “Overall, he was one of the good guys.”
Fry said he expects the township to fill the chief’s position from within the fire department’s ranks.
Christian is survived by his wife Connie. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville. Burial will follow in Perkins Ridge Cemetery in Willow Wood. Visitation is set for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
