PORTSMOUTH — The best thing a sectional tournament tennis player can do on Day 1 is to play on Day 2.
Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ senior Aleigha Justice is playing on Day 2.
Justice won all three of her sectional matches on Tuesday and will now play in the Elite Eight on Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. at Shawnee State University.
A total of 16 teams took to the courts on Tuesday and Ironton’s singles player Holly Bruce and doubles team of Rachel Sanders and Sophia Caines fell in the first round.
Singles player Kara Spencer won her first round match as did the doubles team of Savannah Friend and Sydney Webb.
Spencer won her second round match but Webb and Friend lost to the No. 1 seeded team.
Spencer lost to the No. 3 seed in the Sweet 16 round while Justice advanced.
Sectional winners advance to the district at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Ohio University.
