Reds claim Arismendy

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds claimed Oakland Athletics’ infielder and outfielder Arismendy Alcantara off waivers on Thursday.
The Reds designated infielder and outfielder Patrick Kivlehan for assignment. Kivlehan was claimed off waivers on Wednesday from the San Diego Padres.
Alcantara, 24, began the season in the Chicago Cubs organization and on June 9 was traded to the A’s in exchange for infielder/outfielder Chris Coghlan.
Alcantara spent most of this season in the minor leagues, where combined he hit .278 with 12 home runs, 56 runs batted in and 32 stolen bases for Class AAA Iowa and Nashville and Class A Stockton.
He made 16 appearances during four stints with the Athletics.
