‘Christmas Movies’ theme for Winter Wonderland of Lights

ASHLAND, Ky. — The Winter Wonderland of Lights Festival’s first event, the annual beauty pageant, has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 5 at Ashland Middle School.
Applications are now being accepted and are available at the Ashland Alliance office, 1730 Winchester Ave., or may be mailed or emailed to interested participants.
Categories are from Baby Miss (1-12 months) up to the Queen category (ages 17-21), with the winner of the Queen category receiving a $500 educational scholarship.
WSAZ News Channel 3 Anchor Rob Johnson will serve as master of ceremonies during the Winter Wonderland of Lights Festival’s opening night ceremony at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, on the bandstand in Central Park.
There will be music provided by Unity Baptist Church Choir and additional groups to be announced; the lighting of the lights by the 2016 Winter Wonderland Queen and her court; and Santa Claus will make an appearance to visit with the children.
The Winter Wonderland of Lights Festival’s annual Christmas parade is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 22 in downtown Ashland and is now accepting registrations.
Registration forms may be obtained by calling 606-324-5111 or visiting the Alliance office. Parade registrations must be received no later than Nov. 14.
New judging criteria for this year’s float competition include: “Best Overall,” “Best Theme” and “Runner-up.” There will be prizes of two $500 awards and a $300 award for runner-up. The parade will also feature a band competition, with the winning band leading next year’s parade.
