This was a senior day to celebrate.
The St. Joseph Flyers have 12 seniors on their soccer team and the group celebrated Senior Day with a 5-0 shutout of the Adena Warriors on Saturday afternoon.
St. Joseph started slow and led just 1-0 at the half. But the offense picked up early in the second half.
Coach Mike Balestra said it was an overall effort that produced the win.
“We had three different players score goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half. It was great team work,” said Balestra.
“Both offensively and defensively we played really well.”
The Flyers — now 11-2-1 on the season — got two goals each from Tre Neal and Peyton Adkins. Zac McGraw scored the other goal while Isaac Whaley, Blake Balestra and McGraw all had assists.
Goalkeeper Bradley Rist had four saves as he recorded the shutout.
The Flyers had 25 shots on goal with eight corner kicks. They had five fouls and two offside penalties.
Adena had just seven shots and one corner kick. Dale Ferguson had eight saves.
St. Joseph seniors are Blake McKee, Daniel Hodges, Blake Balestra, Joey Bush, Isaac Walker, Brea Eastham, Trey Clark, Nicholas Ward, Zac McGraw, Tre Neal, Peyton Adkins and Bradley Rist.
