SOUTH POINT — The South Point Pointers were piling up the points.
The Pointers registered a 9-1 Ohio Valley Conference soccer game win over the Rock Hill Redmen on Tuesday.
South Point is now 9-5-1 and 6-1 in the OVC. Rock Hill falls to 4-10-1 and 0-8.
“Rock Hill played tough defense and held us scoreless for 18 minutes which is an improvement from our last game,” said Pointers’ coach Zane Joy.
“We had a lot of possession and shots and finally were able to take control of the game.”
Seven different players scored for the Pointers led by Ryan Brown with two goals and Jake Helton with two goals and two assists.
Jimmy Hart, Drew Smith, Merrick Harris, Caleb Pennington and John Overstreet also recorded goals for the Pointers. John Walters and Hart each had an assist.
Victory Aguilera had an unassisted goal to begin the second half for Rock Hill’s lone point.
Helton and Brown had unassisted goals to begin the scoring and Brown got his second goal with a Hart assist at the 31-minute mark.
Hart then scored with an assist from Helton and the lead was 4-0 at the half.
After Aguilera’s goal, Smith scored with an assist from Helton and then Helton knocked home a penalty kick to make it 6-1 with 54:00 on the clock.
Pennington had an unassisted goal and Overstreet used a Walters’ assist to complete the scoring.
Joy was honored for his 100th career win that came last week against Wheelersburg.
“Beating Wheelersburg for your 100th win is pretty sweet, but I couldn’t have accomplished this without having phennominal players over the years,” said Joy.
South Point hosts Fairland on Thursday. The girls’ game is at 5:30 and the boys at 7:30.
