Return to health gives SV girls win

WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings are getting healthy and getting better.
With the return of their top frontline hitters Kaitlyn Crabtree and Taylor Webb, the Lady Vikings breezed past the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans in a Southern Ohio Conference volleyball game on Tuesday, 25-11, 25-8, 25-11.
Kaitlyn Crabtree — who returned last Thursday from an injury — and Taylor Webb were both in the lineup on Tuesday. Crabtree and six kills while Webb and Kinley Patterson had four kills each.
Patterson led with 13 points and seven aces, Sierra Ross had 12 points with five aces, and Kaitlyn Crabtree had 12 points with four aces.
Ross also had 10 assists.
Last Thursday, the Lady Vikings played at No. 9 ranked Portsmouth Notre Dame and lost despite a solid performance.
Notre Dame won 25-19, 25-16, 25-7.
“It was a very good game. We played very well against a good Notre Dame team,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Kristin Klaiber. “The first two sets we played right with them. We were tied at 10. I was happy with our effort.”
Crabtree had seven kills, Sierra Ross and Mikayla Herrell had three points each, Erica Ross had eight assists, Sierra Ross seven digs and Hannah Gates five digs.
Kinsey Kazee, Herrell and Crabtree each had a block.
The Lady Vikings hosts South Gallia on Wednesday for Senior Night. The 7th grade plays at 5 p.m. followed by the jayvee and varsity games.
Symmes Valley is at Portsmouth Clay on Thursday in their regular season finale.
