PROCTORVILLE — It’s Back To The Future IV.
If Thursday’s Ohio Valley Conference cross country meet is any indication of the future, it will have quite a history.
Prior to the meet, Fairland Dragons’ Bryce Day and Rock Hill Redmen Brendon McCormick signed to run next fall at Shawnee State University.
But the future teammates put any friendship aside when the meet began as Day and McCormick battled for the individual championship.
Day ran a 16:37.52 to finish just ahead of McCormick’s time of 16:38.9 and win the individual honors at the Ohio Valley Conference cross country meet on Thursday.
Although Day was the individual winner, McCormick helped lead his Redmen teammates to their second straight OVC team title.
Rock Hill had 33 points followed by Gallipolis with 47 and the Dragons with 55. The Ironton Fighting Tigers were fourth at 119, the Coal Grove Hornets had 131 and the South Point Pointers 156.
In the girls’ meet, Fairland had 28 points with Gallipolis next with 37 points. Rock Hill was third at 76, Ironton fourth with 102 and Coal Grove had 124.
After Day and McCormick, the rest of the top 10 runners were Rock Hill’s Eli Baker, Gallipolis’ Kaleb Crisenberry, Caleb Greenlee and Kyle Greenlee, Portsmouth’s Daniel Clark, Fairland’s Ethan Lafon, Rock Hill’s Jason Aguilera and Ethan Miller.
The second 10 included Fairland’s Tristen Wilson, Rock Hill’s Victor Aguilera, Portsmouth’s Aiden Kammler, Rock Hill’s Logan Boggs, Portsmouth’s Ethan Haas, Ironton’s Connor Ramey, Rock Hill’s Brady Floyd and Nick Roach and Gallia’s Devon Barnes.
Mary Watts of Gallipolis was the girls’ individual champion with a 20:43.7 time. Fairland’s Deanna Hall was runner-up with a 20:49.2 clocking.
The rest of the top 10 were Mesa Polcyn and Brooke Johnson of Gallipolis, Haleigh Fuller, Olivia Lewis, Olivia Burge and McKenna Pannell of Fairland, Tylan Eastham of Rock Hill and Sarah Cecil of Rock Hill.
The second 10 were Rock Hill’s Lucy Simpson, Gallia’s Abby Johnson, Graci Davis and Molly Rust of Ironton, Dana Grant of Rock Hill, Fairland’s Evanich Kaylan, Gallia’s Cassidy Starnes, Ally Stewart of Rock Hill. Allie Marshall of Fairland and Citlyn Caldwell of Gallipolis.
